What is Faithfulness?

September is here and that means a new word of the month. This month is all about faithfulness… Have you ever wondered.. “Am I being faithful to God?” “Am I a faithful friend?” “How do I stay constantly faithful to Jesus?” “What does it mean to be faithful?” or “What does faithfulness look like?” These are all questions all Christians think about at some point in their life and I am here to help get the answers.

But first…  what does faithful even mean?

Faithfulness has many meanings in the bible. In some cases you can find faithful meaning believing. You have faith in the Gospel, you have faith in God and you have faith in His Word.

However, faithful also can be described as a characteristic of how you act towards others. Like being a faithful friend, a faithful co-worker, or you’re just always faithful.

Some synonyms for faithful include: loyal, steadfast, constant, trustworthy, and reliable. Faithfulness means that others don’t have to worry about you because you are always going to be there for them (steadfast), no matter what (constant), you won’t lie (trustworthy), and you aren’t going to waver (reliable).

Our last big example of faithfulness is God. God is faithful. We see many examples of how he is faithful in the bible. If God says he is going to do something, he does it. He doesn’t waver, and you can always count on him being there. He is the perfect example of what we, as Christians, should be like when we are trying to be faithful.

I am going to end with some verses on faithfulness and God’s faithfulness to us. I challenge you this week to sit down and really think… Am I faithful? Would my friends think of me as a faithful friend? Do I reflect the faithfulness of God in my life? If you answer no to any of these, that’s okay. This month we are all going to self reflect and learn how to become better faithful followers of Christ.

“If we confess our sins, he is FAITHFUL and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” – 1 John 1:9
“If we are FAITHFUL,  he remains faithful..” – 2 Timothy 2:13
” For we walk by FAITH not by sight ” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
“And without FAITH it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”                     – Hebrews 11:6
